Black glazed barstools

I found these bar stools at a local thrift store and decided to try a look I found at All things Thrifty. I started with Kilz primer, Side note: you can find kilz at walmart for about $5 a can. I went through one and wasn't done primering the first stool. So for more than one project I recommend getting the quart size of kilz primer. It is about $6 at Home Depot, but you can use on several projects!



Another side note: If you prefer using can primer (it makes life easier for chairs and stools) I recommend getting Krylon primers (you can get it at about $3 a can) which can save you some money in the long run).
After it was primered I used Krylon Cherry red in glossy

After I let it dry, I added the glaze, I got the glaze at Home Depot. Side Note: It doesn't come tinted so you need to have a associate tint it for you. You can get any color you want. For this project and many others you will see I chose black.


Using a paint brush, I carefully brushed the glaze on the top and legs and left it to dry. After it dried I use a polyurethane spray to seal the paint. This also helps to prevent paint chipping off. And here is the after result!



I love that it looks like a different piece of furniture!

Beautiful Distressed night stand

This was one of my first projects I worked on that I sold. I picked up this baby at a local Thrift Store for $2. I was really surprised because this was a solid wood item and was really hard to carry to my car. When I got it home I went straight to work. I sanded it down, primer it with Glidden gray primer (you can pick this up at any home depot). Since I was painting the night stand black the gray primer made sense to use so I didn't have to do as many coats. After it was all painted (I used Glidden semi-gloss black paint) I used a 120 grit sand paper and began sanding the edges as well as the inside edges of the drawers, giving it a worn affect. I didn't do anything with the hardware because I felt that it added character to keep the originals. I was really proud of the results but was really sad to sell because it was such a beautiful piece, but it went to a very nice man that really loved the item. Enjoy the before and after photos.

Hi, Welcome to my blog! I just wanted to share a little bit about myself

So my name is Andi and I've always loved design and crafts from a small age. I feel like I came from a family that likes to create, my father has been a general contractor for many years, my brother owns his own cabinetry business where he custom makes cabinets as well as furniture and my sisters like finding great things at the thrift store and always changing up their homes. As a child, I use to switch my room around every 6 months because I felt I always needed a change. I decided in high school that I wanted to go into Interior Design, so I began college at a local university where I was living and decided to hold off on finishing school because the university didn't have an Interior Design degree at the time. I got married, had two kids and by my wonderful husbands push I went back to school to do what I love to do. I'm a recent graduate from the Art Institute of Pittsburgh for Residential Planning. While in school, I took a Furniture History course and this is where my love of furniture came from. From then on, I've started taking old furniture and giving it a new, fresh look. I hope you enjoy my furniture transformations and will feel inspired as I have over the last year.

Favorite Interior Designers:
I have a few designers that I admire because they have a little taste of modern with beauty and class. One that makes the top of my list is Candice Olson. I love how she can take any room and transform it into a luxury space. I love her grace and poise, I love the beauty she brings to any space. I think out of anyone she stands out the most to me and makes me want to be a better designer and bring out my creative side.
My next person I enjoy looking at their work is Nate Berkus. He also brings beauty and class to any space he designs. I also really like that a lot of his designs are done with a small budget.

Favorite Design style:

Over time I've learned to love Shabby chic. I also really love simple modern styles. Not too over the top. Asian style is another one I enjoy looking at.
